Shew: Graffiti Artist Interview & Limited Streetwear Collaboration
A graffiti collaboration rooted in hip hop culture and handstyle
For this limited collaboration, we sat down with Jannick Brandt, aka Shew — a Denmark-based graffiti artist deeply rooted in handstyle and hip-hop culture, who has turned decades of dedication into a full-time creative career.
With over 20 years in graffiti, Jannick represents the real grind behind the art — from early tags to large-scale walls for clients and companies, all while building his own clothing brand. His work reflects strong influences from New York and the Danish graffiti scene, combined with a commitment to authenticity and creative freedom.
The Artist Behind
Who are you?
My name is Jannick Brandt, I’m 33 years old, and I’ve been doing graffiti for about 20 years now. Today, it’s my job — I paint walls for people and companies, and I also run my own clothing brand where I design my own signs and artwork.
The Collaboration
How did the collaboration with B.Different Clothing and Mural Graffitis happen?
I’ve been seeing your brand all over the place, and I started thinking maybe this could be something I’d want to be part of. I really like what you guys are doing and how you work with artists.
Graffiti Journey
When and why did you start graffiti?
I started about 20 years ago. In the beginning, it was all about handstyle — that’s where my roots come from and what I’ve always been doing.
How would you describe your art style?
My style is based on handstyle. Even today, everything I do comes from that foundation — it’s still the core of my graffiti.
What inspires your graffiti?
I get a lot of inspiration from New York graffiti and street art culture. I also grew up being inspired by Danish graffiti writers like Sabe, Swet, Bates, Soten, and Storm.
Street Art & Philosophy
What do street art and graffiti mean to you?
For me, it’s about being creative. That’s the main goal. Whether it’s street art or graffiti, it’s all just different ways to express yourself.
Are there artists or brands that inspire you?
I’ve always been inspired by the Danish graffiti scene, especially writers like Sabe, Swet, Bates, Soten, and Storm.
Life as an Artist
Are you a full-time professional artist?
Yes, graffiti is my full-time job. I work with both private clients and companies, painting walls and doing commissioned work.
What artwork are you most proud of so far?
I’m most proud of a piece I did in my hometown — it’s a large wall with a mirror effect, a nature background, graffiti on top, and a big house. That one really stands out to me.
What has your experience been like trying to grow as an artist?
It’s not easy. You really have to work for it and really want it. You also need to find people who believe in your vision and support what you’re doing. I’ve been lucky to have that kind of support in my community in Denmark.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists?
Just practice and do what you love. Don’t care too much about what other people think — if you think it’s good, then it’s good. And if you want to make it as an artist, it’s important to find people who can support you, both creatively and on the business side, and help you find new opportunities.
B.Different Philosophy
What do you think about the philosophy behind B.Different Clothing?
I really like that your brand creates opportunities for graffiti writers all around the world. You give them a platform to show their skills and artwork, and then bring it onto clothing. It looks great, and it’s a strong way to support artists and what they do.
